The deadblot latch is a component inside the lock cylinder. When the door lock is in the locked position, the deadblot latch protrudes from the inside of the lock body, which is inserted into the lock hole on the door frame. This holds the door in place and prevents it from being opened at will.
Locking process
When we turn the key or press the lock handle, the mechanism inside the lock cylinder will make the deadblot latch remove. In the process of locking the door, the rotation of the lock cylinder will cause the deadblot latch to extend outward from the inside of the lock body. As it extends, the deadblot latch slides along the guide rails inside the lock body. It's eventually inserted into the lock hole in the door frame. The process is realized through the interplay of gears, springs and other components inside the lock cylinder.
Opening process
The lock cylinder rotates in reverse when the lock is opened. With the action of the inside of the cylinder and the spring, the deadblot latch retracts from the lock hole in the door frame to the inside of the lock body. The spring serves mainly to enable the square tongue to return quickly and accurately to its initial position, so that it can be extended smoothly the next time the door is locked.
